Fans of "quiet hunting" will be interested to know what mushrooms were born in Belarus this, 2019. The season opened in early July. During this time, mushroom pickers have already been able to stock up on a good harvest until next season.
Mushroom picking in Belarus in 2019
This year's harvest
Mushroom pickers noted that the harvest was not as rich in 2019 when compared to the previous year.
The reason for this is drought. Late spring and early summer were characterized by hot, dry weather. The complete absence of rain was the reason for the decline in the number of mushrooms this season. Precipitation began only in July.
After that, it became possible to pick mushrooms, and even if not in such a large quantity as in the previous year, but no one was left without a harvest. The main thing is to know the places so as not to leave the forest empty-handed.
Irina Selyutina (Biologist):
Mushroom maps of Belarus offer routes for fans of "quiet hunting" that have already been developed over a number of years.
However, everyone agrees that the largest number of the richest mushroom places is found in the territory near Minsk and Vitebsk. The most popular mushroom grounds in the republic are:
- Khatyn forest area;
- Talca station;
- Logoyshchina (Vitebsk direction, forests between the city of Logoisk and the village of Pleshchenitsa);
- Ilya village;
- village Stolbtsy.
Most of the locals do not go far from home, because many mushrooms can be found everywhere.
Types of mushrooms
There are more than 200 species of edible mushrooms in the forests of the Republic of Belarus. The season starts in mid-spring, but a lot depends on the weather.
Morels and stitches appear first. They grow after catkins appear on aspens, and birch buds acquire a red hue. Morels and lines grow in open, well-heated areas - glades, ravines and other similar terrain. Lines can also often be found in fires.
In late spring - early summer, the "first wave" appears when rowan, pine and spruce trees begin to bloom, as well as rye. At this time, you do not need to count on a rich harvest, since there will not be a large number of mushrooms. Localization is an open area, which is well warmed by the sun's rays. These are glades, glades, roadsides. The duration of the first growth wave is 7-10 days. At this time, boletus, russula, and mushrooms appear. In coniferous forests where pines grow, you can find white ones. The duration of the first layer is influenced by precipitation. According to observations, when in 1973 there were heavy rains in Belarus, the "first wave" of fruit bodies appeared in the middle of spring and delighted with mushrooms for 36 days.
When rye begins to spike and bloom, white, boletus, chanterelles, pigs and honey agarics appear in the forests. Localization places - different types of forests.
The appearance of the "second wave" occurs in mid-summer after the beginning of flowering of linden and the end of haymaking. Boletus, white, boletus and boletus begin to grow. The duration of growth of this fruiting period is 2-3 weeks, depending on precipitation and air temperature.
The "third wave" is considered the richest. She pleases mushroom pickers with a large number of mushrooms and a variety of species. Growing white, chanterelles, boletus, boletus, pigs, volushki, milk mushrooms, mushrooms and autumn mushrooms. Mushrooms appear at the end of summer and delight lovers of "quiet hunting" until the frost.
How to pick mushrooms correctly
Mushrooms cannot be uprooted
So that this year's lean mushroom season does not leave mushrooms completely without mushrooms, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the rules for collecting fruit bodies:
- a trip to the forest is best planned in the morning hours (preferably at 5-6 hours);
- you should walk slowly so as not to miss the mushrooms, even if other people are already gathering nearby;
- it is recommended to pick mushrooms alone, since the presence of relatives, acquaintances, friends or colleagues distracts to conversations, but if you come with your company do not lose sight of each other;
- do not pull out the mushrooms together with some of the adjacent soil, because the mycelium is placed in it and due to such manipulation next year there may no longer be a crop in this place, use a knife when harvesting;
Irina Selyutina (Biologist):
Opinions on how to properly pick mushrooms - cut with a knife or twist out of the soil - vary greatly. One group adheres to the first opinion, the second stubbornly stands on its own. But it’s not the point of how you collect - everything depends on the culture of collection, in what can be called a medical requirement: "Do no harm." This means that after cutting off or carefully twisting the stem of the fruiting body out of the soil, sprinkle the place of growth with earth. Why? In order to preserve the mycelium and give it the opportunity for the next season to please both you and other fans of the mushroom with new mushrooms.
- use a stick to check the foliage for fungi so you don't bend over and disturb your back every time. This will protect you from accidental contacts with forest dwellers undesirable for humans - snakes, arthropods;
- be sure to collect mushrooms with legs - it is they that often allow you to determine the toxicity of the mushroom due to the peculiarities of its external structure;
- mushrooms usually grow in groups - families, so if you find one, carefully look around in search of congeners.
Safety regulations
When picking mushrooms, it is recommended to observe the following safety rules:
- before going into the forest, warn your family and friends about the place of stay and the time of going into the forest;
- Apply anti-tick and mosquito protection to your body and clothing to avoid the unpleasant effects of insect bites;
- fully charge your mobile phone and check that the balance is positive;
- take with you a minimum set of food and water to satisfy hunger and thirst, which often arise after long walks;
- take breaks to rest;
- do not collect along highways, since mushrooms in this strip contain a large amount of lead, which can cause intoxication of the body after consuming the product;
- do not collect old and rotten mushrooms, as their use can also lead to poisoning;
- do not take unfamiliar mushrooms or those species whose edibility makes you doubtful, since their consumption can lead to undesirable and even irreversible consequences;
- if you are not familiar with the area, mark your way with bright ribbons (or something else) on the trees. You can easily find your way back along them and do not forget to take them off as you return.
If the children went with you to the forest:
- tell them about the rules for picking mushrooms and how to behave in the forest;
- do not allow to taste mushrooms and berries;
- determine the zone of your reach for them (no more than 2-3 m);
- for safety reasons, dress them brightly, catchy, so that the figure can be seen from afar.
